God certainly knew that the mighty power, wisdom, and intellectual prowess of Lucifer, now Satan, won’t lie idle for long after his overthrow from Heaven. Lucifer became very livid for being thrown out of the home of light. Knowing that he is banished from Heaven, he determined to inflict an indelible pain on Heaven.
In Heaven, he was almost always engaged in some form of activity. But now, he had nothing to do. He only found himself in a pack of angry, disappointed, and restive angels who have been cast out of Heaven with him: without a home and hope. The future seemed dark and uncertain…
The Earth had just been made and its dominion had been handed over to the sinless pair: Adam and Eve. It was beautiful and perfect. There were no rugged hills or bare earth…every part of the globe was carpeted with living grass and canopied by giant evergreen trees. Birds of every colour and hue filled the air whilst the rivers, lakes, ponds, and oceans bustled with all forms of life. In Eden🫐 lived the holy pair who filled the indescribable garden with holy songs…
Comparing his current situation to that of Adam and Eve, Satan, the deceiver, envied them and hated God for His predicament. Oh, that he could turn back the tide of time. Oh, that he could exchange his current situation for a gatekeeper in Heaven. But it was too late…
Satan allowed his beauty, wisdom, intellectual prowess, and divine endowments to deceive him. There are many on earth who allow their material wealth, physical beauty, rare skills, musical voice, intellectual abilities, etc. to deceive them. They look at these fleeting endowments and rebel against God who gave them all these things. They become proud, boastful, disrespectful, callous…
Indeed, many people are atheists because they think they do not need God in their lives, forgetting that He is the source of all their current bounties. The Apostle Paul echoed this reality in I Corinthians 1:26-27:
“…not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called…”
Satan thus determined to wrestle the power of this Earth from Adam and Eve and make this new planet his home and Kingdom. Because of their powers, angels can change forms, travel faster than light, and travel through water, fire, buildings, and earth. They can mimic the living and the dead to deceive their unsuspecting victims; they use this in occultism and witchcraft. It was thus easy for Satan to hide within a serpent, change his voice, and deceive Eve.
Owing to these powers, Satan and his fallen angels still move about unseen to destroy, deceive, and cast the results of their nefarious actions on God. In mercy to His weaker creation, the Heavenly minstrel sang:
“woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath…” Revelation 12:12.
Satan’s time is really short indeed, and his craze knows no bounds!! He is determined to destroy all with himself…we should therefore not be surprised to see the world inundated with war, pestilences, hunger, destruction, indescribable crimes, etc. As the days of this weary earth draw to a close, our only hope is in God and His protection alone. Let us ponder and pray over this on this Holy Sabbath. Peace, grace, love, and Divine protection be with us all.
