Can we prove the existence of a Supreme being? Can we believe in what we don’t see and feel? Notably, the abuse and excesses of religious faith, from the Middle Ages up to today, which is clearly visible on our screens, has made infidels of millions.
For instance, many church members are made to eat grass, divorce their spouses, kill their parents, commit gross sexual immorality etc. just because they believe that their pastor’s word is from God. Their “faith” in their pastor’s directions make them do the unthinkable. This is not faith. This is presumption.

It is presumption because it is not based on the Word of God, but on the word of a man that goes contrary to God’s Word. Surely, eating grass or bathing a naked woman is not based on God’s Word! Neither is sleeping with a pastor as a means to oust evil spirits based on God’s Word.

When Christ was in the Wilderness for 40 days to fast, Satan came to Him and tempted Him “to turn the stone🪨 into bread “if he was the Son of God”. Turning the stone into bread would have satisfied the question of Satan but would have cast doubt on Christ’s faith in Himself as the Son of God. If you believe you’re the Son of God, why prove it to Satan and why with a miracle that will further tempt your hunger?
Moreover, not a few days prior, God had spoken from Heaven at His baptism that “this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased“. Thus, to attempt to turn the stone into bread would have been presumption and not faith. For faith in the word that was heard at His baptism would be enough to convince Him that He is the Son of God.
Satan again asked Him to cast Himself down from a tall building to prove Christ’s faith in God’s Word that “He will give His angels charge over thee…lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.” Here, Christ again refused to be moved by presumption and rightly said, “thou shalt not tempt the LORD thy God.”

Someone may ask, “why didn’t Christ do these to prove Satan wrong?” He didn’t have to, because He implicitly believed in and relied on God’s Word. He did not have to unnecessarily place Himself in danger to “force” God’s hand to rescue Him, thus “proving” God to see if He will abide by His Word in the Bible.

Indeed, in instances where the Jews tried to stone🪨 Him for calling Himself the Messiah or Son of God, angels of God whisked Him away from the mob, and God’s Word was proved true…but this was not done by Christ deliberately to “test” God by putting God “in the dock.”
Today, many people would like to prove the existence of God in the “laboratory” of human reasoning. Many people want to “see evidence of God’s power” before believing in Him…such people will be disappointed. For God is only visible to the faithful and not to the doubting presumptuous atheist.

Without faith, it’s impossible to please Him. No one can prove the existence of God without first believing in Him and taking Him at His Word. To such ones, He reveal Himself as the self-existent one. We cannot explain the existence of the deity any more than we can explain the mysteries of nature. May we ponder over the greatness and majesty of God on this Holy Sabbath day…a blessed peaceful Holy Sabbath to all sons and daughters of God!!
