The world is in turmoil. Society is at a crossroad. The older generation is giving way to the newer generation with swift changes. Finance, politics, religion, culture, diseases, the climate, are seeing rapid changes. Here, we provide thought-provoking insights into the current and impending crises facing the world.

    Uncharted Territory

What awaits us tomorrow? First published on April 30 2021

We are in turbulent times, and I need not reiterate it. For almost a month now, India has been recording 300K+ coronavirus infections daily. Both India 🇮🇳 and Brazil 🇧🇷 record more than 3000+ deaths daily from coronavirus (COVID-19) infections. Their hospitals are overwhelmed as thousands are turned away to die at home or seek treatment on the black market.

India 🇮🇳, the pharmacy of the world, has become the hospital of the world as she now reels under the plague of this unmerciful virus (COVID-19). Oxygen and Remdesivir have become hot commodities selling for 10-100x their normal price on the black market. Just as in Brazil, thousands die at home, in the streets, or in hospital corridors and there is no space to bury or burn (cremate) them.

A new double mutant has emerged in India, which is believed to be fueling this massive spread among the vulnerable population. This mutant is different and tends to also infect those who have been already vaccinated. The P1 mutant in Brazil is also pushing the virus throughout Brazil🇧🇷 and the whole of South/Latin America. This beggars the question: how long can the available vaccines remain efficient?

Already, the head of the WHO🇺🇳 EU region office has said that vaccines alone can not prevent/control this pandemic. And these are very populous and larger countries, dominating trade, and technology. Wealthy Indians are leaving the country for Dubai and other places, just as they are also leaving Brazil, putting the whole world at risk of contracting these vaccine-resistant variants. Last week alone, 35% of all COVID-19 deaths occurred in South America alone, and the situation in Colombia 🇨🇴 (Bogota) and Argentina are very bleak.

In the Middle East and Turkey 🇹🇷, it’s no better. An oxygen plant exploded in a hospital in Iraq, killing several patients who were in need of oxygen. Turkey will be locking down soon: the global economic toll of this lockdown cannot be estimated. Millions have lost their jobs, family, friends, wealth…everything!

Meanwhile, war looms over the Middle East between Israel 🇮🇱 and Iran over their nuclear weapons plans. Tensions are equally brewing between China, Southern Asia, and the world over the South China 🇨🇳 Sea. Russia is building up military pressure on the borders of Ukraine 🇺🇦, threatening the stability of Europe🇪🇺 and the world. The 1st World War was fought during the 1918 Spanish flu. Will another war be fought during this pandemic too, 100 years later??

No one knows tomorrow. May God be our guide, protector, and peace. For we are indeed in troublous times; in uncharted waters. Our hearts are really heavy with worry. A happy blessed Sabbath day to all and sundry
